In September, CBRL Amman Institute’s participating team for the 16th International Conference on the Archaeology and History of Jordan (ICHAJ16) arranged a study tour to the British School at Athens (BSA). 

Archivist Ms. Amalia Kakissis showed the CBRL Amman team around the BSA and spoke about the history of the institution’s establishment. The focus of the visit was the renowned BSA library and the rich archive documenting over a century of archaeological work.  

The visit offered an opportunity to explore the extensive library with Evi Charitoudi, BSA Librarian, who introduced the team to more than 70,000 volumes on archaeology, classics, anthropology, and related fields primarily focused on Greece. The team also learned about BSA’s long-standing expertise in managing and preserving its archival collections. 

Such visits are an integral part of CBRL’s mission to strengthen cooperation among British research institutes across the region. The visit helped to foster the exchange of expertise and ideas, particularly in areas such as library and archive management, digital preservation and collaborative research on heritage and archaeology. This contributes to a shared vision of knowledge exchange and cultural preservation that transcends geographical boundaries.
