Fatma Marii started the role of deputy director at CBRL at the beginning of 2025. Before that, she was a consultant for museum collection preservation and conservation on local and regional projects in Jordan. Her previous experience includes serving as a lecturer at the Cultural Resources Management and Conservation Department at the University of Jordan, a coordinator for conservation projects at ICCROM-Sharjah, and the head of the conservation department at the Jordan Museum. Fatma has participated in various conservation projects across several archaeological expeditions in Jordan between 1992 and 2001. She earned her Ph.D. in 2008 from the Institute of Archaeology at University College London and her master’s degree in 1998 from the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology at Yarmouk University. Her undergraduate degree was in Archaeology, awarded in 1990 from the University of Jordan. Additionally, she was a graduate intern at The Antiquity Conservation Department of the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles from 1998 to 1999.
Her primary research interest focuses on archaeological glass during the Roman and Byzantine periods in the Levant. In addition, she is favourable toward training future generations for the preservation of cultural heritage in general and for museum collections in particular.
