We are excited to announce the development of our new Research Hub at CBRL Amman.

The Space:

The Research Hub offers a dedicated space at the CBRL Amman Institute for scholars and researchers looking for a workspace, particularly for practical research activities like laying out artefacts for sampling, comparison, recording, drawing, and photographing.

The space is fully equipped with Wi-Fi, air conditioning, office facilities, additional worktables, and a height-adjustable desk. Researchers will also appreciate the abundance of natural daylight through the Hub’s large windows.

The Research Hub is also suitable for hosting small meetings.

Tools and equipment:

The Research Hub is equipped with tools and instruments to support practical research, including microscopes, plastic trays, glass tubes, and specimen dishes. We will also be installing a photogrammetry equipment.

Archaeological samples:

The most notable additions to the Research Hub are the reference collections of animal bones and botanical samples. Specialists have collected these samples over many decades and which are now more accessible to scholars in both zooarchaeology and archaeobotany.

The first scholar to use the Research Hub was Prof. Louise Martin, who began her work on 27th April and continued for two weeks. During her visit, she offered training to Ms. Ayya Alshanawani in classifying and organising the animal bone reference collection, arranging them on specially designed shelves. Together, they also labelled storage boxes with detailed contents. Prof. Martin is currently finalising a catalogue of these modern animal skeletal samples, which will be issued soon.

The botanical samples are yet to be sorted into standard labelled boxes and catalogued to give greater access for researchers. Work is also underway to install the photogrammetry unit. Once the setup is complete; a user guide, instructions, and cost list for use of the Research Hub will be made available and announced on the CBRL website.
